CANES 5, HUNTSVILLE 2
Slow Start and 2-0 Deficit Overcome

After thirty minutes of Thursday's game against the Huntsville Otters, your Hurricanes were playing flat hockey and were in a 2-0 hole.  A pair of power play goals thanks to an Otter five-minute check-from-behind penalty put the Canes back on track en route to a 5-2 win.

With seven games to go in their 2011-12 OJHL regular season schedule, the Canes (32-5-5) remain eight points ahead of the Stouffville Spirit in the North Division.

After Huntsville had taken the lead with a pair of tallies earlier in the second period, Daniel Leavens and Chris Chiste (1st of two on the night) evened things up with goals thrity-four seconds apart.  The third period featured a troika of Newmarket markers, Jeff DiNallo, Chiste and Phil Grainger bulging the twine.

Matt Wintjes picked up the win in goal, stopping 16 shots.  The Canes outshot Huntsville 37-18.

Matt Dineen and Taylor Chick both picked up a pair of assists; Chick was named The Pickle Barrel Player of the Game.

Newmarket has a pair of road matches this weekend - Friday night in Markham and Sunday afternoon in Milton.  Next up at the Twinney Complex are the aforementioned Waxers on Thursday, February 2 at 7:30pm.  Game sponsor is Mr. Sub.

NOTES - Congratulations to defenceman and Assistant Captain Adam Davies who this week accepted an offer to attend Adrian College in Michigan next season.  Adam will join former Canes Kevin Balas and Josh Cousineau.  Another former Hurricane Brad Fogal, graduated from Adrian last summer and is now plying his goaltending trade in the ECHL...Due to a scheduling conflict (game in Stouffville that afternoon), the Hurricanes will not be taking part in the Sunday, February 5 Twinney Complex public skate as part of Newmarket Winterfest weekend.
