The Newmarket Hurricanes would like to express our thanks and gratitude to all who continue to make our organization a success on and off the ice, and make us a leader in Junior A hockey across Ontario.
We are especially proud of how everyone within the organization has embraced our Core Values. The hockey development and educational process implemented years ago has brought our hockey club to the forefront over the past few seasons. Our hockey staff has walked the talk and continues to develop young local talent as evidenced by the current year's team, who proudly boasted 17 local players on route to five playoffs series, The CCHL Championship and the Buckland Cup finals. More importantly, our coaching staff's commitment to doing their homework up front, and developing players rather than trading or acquiring players for the sake of change has greatly benefitted the team while emphasizing our Core Values. We are very proud that every player except for one started and ended the year on our roster. This success was also achieved with a hard working young team that had only one 20 year old. That is our commitment to loyalty and development. In addition to hockey development, our educational consultants thrive throughout the year to tutor our players and prepare them for University, as well as provide them scholarship opportunities.
Chad Sumsion with be heading off to Bowling Green, Joel Hanley to UMass Amherst, Julian Melchiori to UMass Lowell in September while Tyler Sikura will be off to Dartmouth in September 2011. No doubt there will be other players committing to CIS Universities with more NCAA scholarship to be awarded next year to our strong core of returning players.
Although Championships are extremely valued, our team and staff are measured by our Wall of Fame and how many players we move on to scholarships, higher levels of education and hockey opportunities each year.
Congratulations to our players on a great year fighting through adversity and much personal tragedy, to our coaching staff for your countless hours of dedication and simply being the best there is, our training staff who are many times the unsung heroes in helping our players rehab as well as protecting our players health, our equipment staff for their tireless work and most of all our outstanding Volunteers without whom The Newmarket Hurricanes would not be the great organization we are both on and off the ice.
To our fans who are the greatest in our League, thanks for another great year of support and we hope to provide you another long playoff run next season.
Tremendous season to all! Good luck to those players moving on to scholarships and University and for those coming back we are poised for another great year with a strong core of returning players. We wish a great summer to all.
